Uncertain times
We are living in a time of remarkable changes to our country, our state, and our communities. Drug and alcohol abuse, school dropout rates, teenage pregnancy, among other problems are often unrecognized or ignored. These problems affect us all, but are particularly striking in minority populations. These are serious problems that need to be addressed sooner than later.
A commitment to change
While there may be other programs, community leaders, parents, and some government agencies who are making an effort to take action on the issues and present a response to the problems, we as members of the community would like to play our part. We believe that by reaching the youth at an early age we are better able to prevent the irrational decisions and actions taken by our children, which are often based on peer pressure and a lack of knowledge.
In general, today’s youth are faced with many complex problems. Often provoked by peer pressure and the need to fit in, serious difficulties in the classroom, depression that often leads to suicide, substance abuse, physical and sexual abuse, peer conflicts, early pregnancy, health problems, and violence can often result.
A brighter future
To battle the problems our youth face today it is important that, as community members and leaders, we institute groundbreaking ways to aid our children in correct decision making. To enable this we offer activities that keep kids off the streets and involved in self-improvement and community improvement activities.
It is with this in mind that we constructed this Mentoring Program for the children of our community. The goal of the program is to prepare young people between the ages of 5 and 15 for their future. To accomplish this goal, My World will promote educational and social support for all the members. We strive to offer the community access to a free and high-quality educational program designed to transform our youths.
